![]() ![]() It was based on the authors great grandmother. ![]() It was really fun to read, and felt like the experience and descriptions were an accurate depiction of how life could have been. The dialogue was hilarious for me as an adult. ![]() The kids there are poor, but quick as a whip. Budnick can’t abide by noise - and children are noisy. Main character Turtle had lived with her mother, a housekeeper, until her mother got a job working for Mrs. It is about a girl in the depression in the 30's and she is sent to he. Turtle in Paradise, a 2011 Newbery Honor book by Jennifer Holm, takes readers to Key West, Florida in 1935. It is a very fun book to read, one that I would be happy to let her read. I had to read through some of them to make sure I was fine with her reading them. Review 2: My daughter picked up a huge pile of books from the library. I like the pics at the end of the book and the backstory.Lots of wit in this story - kept me happily entertained. ![]() That said, I loved the characters - especially The Diaper Gang, who were absolutely hilarious.especially in how they got their nickname.Turtle holds her own as a character, as well. It felt like an end was untied with Slow Poke, as well. Review 1: Loved it, but I agree the ending is a bit of a blindside for an unsuspecting child reader. ![]()
